Built because the cloud was the only option.
Why Otterlog
Every meeting tool we tried sent the audio somewhere. To a server. To a transcription API. To a "summarisation" model in someone else's cloud. Sometimes with our consent, sometimes buried in a clickwrap, sometimes not disclosed at all. The "AI-powered note-taking" market in 2024 was, in effect, a federated surveillance system with a friendlier UI on top.
For most meetings, that's fine. For confidential ones, sensitive client work, internal strategy, anything you wouldn't read aloud in a coffee shop, it isn't. And there was no real alternative. You either gave up the privacy or gave up the productivity.
Otterlog is the alternative. Everything runs on your computer. No cloud transcription, no remote summarisation, no telemetry, no account. The privacy claim is the product; verification is at /privacy-proof.
A real company, with real names.
Otterlog is built by Papi Labs Ltd, a UK-based AI venture studio founded by Saman Taherimoud. Saman is an AI product builder and solutions engineer with seven years of shipping software and four years specifically building with LLMs since the OpenAI davinci-3 era. He's based in Newcastle.
Papi Labs builds practical AI tools for people, businesses, and communities the tech industry overlooks or takes advantage of. Otterlog is one of four products in the studio: alongside GuideKit (AI literacy in the browser), ClipShield (local-LLM PII protection), and FairPlate® (white-label food ordering for independent restaurants).
The studio is bootstrapped, stakeholder-capitalist, and not for sale. Revenue from Otterlog funds further mission-led work, including AI education programmes for under-served communities.
